CYPRUS PARKINSON DISEASE ASSOCIATION (CPDA) ORGANIZES SUCCESSFUL EVENT: “GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER” UNDER THE AEGIS OF THE MINISTER OF HEALTH

On Thursday June 16, CPDA had organized an event under the aegis of the Minister of Health of Cyprus, Mr.Christos Patsalides (who is also now Chairman of the World Health Organization) with the theme: «Meeting of getting to know each other» in a relaxed atmosphere over coffee from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Holiday Inn Hotel in Nicosia the Capital City of Cyprus.

The event was attended by PWP, their carers and friends, Doctors, Nurses, Social Benefits Officers and members and friends of the Cyprus PD Association.

During the event the participants were informed on the latest on the treatment on PD by Dr. Marios Pantzaris, neurologist at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics. The social benefits allowances for people with PD were also described and explained by the social benefits expert Marina Pavlou. The Minister gave us his views on Health Policy and also covered cost of treatment and therapy from a global perspective and analyzed the trends, while praised the work that is done by the Cyprus Parkinson’s Disease Association and similar associations.
The Minister also said that he remains at the disposal of the CPDA for any issues that need to be raised within the scope of helping the quality of life for PD patients and their families.

Also the new e – presence of CPDA was introduced to all participants and specifically the website cpda.org.cy, the facebook and twitter presence, with a scope to make useful information available to anyone any time, and help in contributing to a better quality of life for the PD patients, their carers and their families.

Last but not least participants had a chance to receive the book in Greek titled Living with PD, (an EPDA publication) that was kindly sent to CPDA from the Greek PD Association (epikouros Parkinson Portal). CPDA was founded in 2000 and is an advocate for the rights and needs of patients with PD and their families, with a scope to increase awareness in order to secure that all persons with PD and their families will have access and proper management and therapy at the right time.
